In the year 2015, at age 19, she released her debut single Here. The track was highly praised by both critics and fans. It reached the top spot at 19th on both the Canadian Hot 100 as well as Billboard Hot 100. Even Rolling Stone called the single one of its Best Songs in 2015. She released her debut Know It All album in the same year. The third single, Scars to Your Beautiful was one of five songs that reached the top of the charts on Billboard including Canadian Albums Chart Billboard 200 as well as Billboard Hot 100. This track was special due to the Rap-Up interview that she conducted, many of the listeners could connect to her experiences of finding love for themselves, as well as doubting herself. Cara has earned a name for her messages on emotional health, kindness, and self-love into her music. The inspiration for her music is drawn from her own personal journey as she has been battling mental health issues and insomnia. Reuters stated that she calls her album "half tumultuous, half perfected". She describes her growth by therapy and is adamant about encouraging anyone else to seek out help when necessary. Alessia Cara grew up in Toronto, Canada. She was born July 11, 1996, to parents of Italian origins. She was given a guitar by her parents after she was 10 years old, which sparked the passion for music. She began to cover her favorite songs when she was 13, to prove to the world she had the skills and the courage necessary to be a singer. Actually, one of her cover tracks Sweater Weather became the song that got her noticed by EP Entertainment. They allowed her to compose and record her own songs.
